See left-hand menu for information on Local Chapter events in the respective countries.

What are Local Chapters?

Local chapter webpages are designed to include information on regional activities and organisations, and aim to provide information on funding, job opportunities, as well as helpful tips for newcomers to the area.

To facilitate initiatives at a regional level, the EMBL Alumni Association has established Local Chapters. These chapters serve as important platforms for scientific meetings and seminars, expertise and resource sharing and social gatherings. They can provide a unified and powerful voice to local and national politicians and funding bodies, and help to further science in their regions. Local chapters can be particularly effective in organising fundraising initiatives to support their activities.

Each chapter is headed by EMBL alumni who have volunteered to coordinate activities and events in their area.

Is there a Local Chapter near me?

There are active chapters in Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Scandinavia, Spain and Portugal, Switzerland, the UK and the USA. Several of them have already held one local meeting to appoint local officials and plan future meetings and events. We hope that alumni in other countries will soon follow suit.

How can I join a Local Chapter?

Please contact the Local Chapter head nearest to you, or if there isn't one, please create your own, contact us for more details. Local Chapter heads will contact all registered alumni members in their area informing them of upcoming events.
