Training

Advanced training activities at EMBL Grenoble takes place at various levels. The most important training programme is the EMBL International PhD Programme. Currently 18 postdoctoral researchers and 7 pre-doctoral candidates are training in Grenoble. External scientists have the opportunity to participate in advanced training by regular courses and workshops, and an EU funded User Programme for access to synchrotron facilities.

Advanced training is one of EMBL's four core missions. Over the years, the Laboratory has established a number of highly successful training activities, of which the world-class and frequently copied International PhD Programme is the flagship. The EMBL International PhD Programme is renowned for the internationality of its students, the dedicated mentoring provided by its supervisors and the early independence granted to its researchers. Entry is highly competitive, and the programme is committed to providing its PhD students with the best starting platform for a successful career in science.

EMBL provides an exciting environment for postdoctoral fellows. World class research labs and facilities, high quality seminar programmes and the vibrant international atmosphere combine to ensure that postdoctoral fellows have access to all they need at this critical career stage.

EMBL welcomes undergraduate visitors, trainees, diploma students and other scientists who become associated with  EMBL for a limited period of time for training purposes. The duration of such work must not exceed twelve months. Such training opportunities are to be discussed directly with Group or Team leaders.

The European Learning Laboratory for the Life Sciences (ELLS) fosters a new type of interaction between teachers and scientists. It brings together scientists who are enthusiastic about helping teachers and students, and provides teachers with hands-on training in science for classroom use.
