Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Storage Administrator to join the Systems Infrastructure Team at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI). This position is in the Storage team that has three full time Storage Administrators. The team is responsible for EBI's large scale (>100PB) central storage.



You will be responsible for the daily management of EBI's central storage. The responsibilities include user support, troubleshooting, system installations and configurations. You will also be involved in monitoring and proactive planning with your colleagues.



There will also be the opportunity to get involved in projects that offer opportunities to learn new skills.

Qualifications and Experience

You will have a degree in Computer Science or have equivalent work experience and the ability to work effectively in English. In addition you are required to have:

  • Experience in administering large scale storage systems;
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (or other Linux) administration experience;
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment;
  • The desire to learn and keep up with technology advances.

Any experience of the following is considered advantageous:

  • NetApp, in particular cluster mode;
  • Cleversafe;
  • Isilon;
  • Lustre
  • Tape Libraries.

Personal organisation, time management, and excellent communications skills are essential.
