Job Description

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).

We are looking for a half time Research Technician to work in the lab of Lars Hufnagel at the Cell Biology & Biophysics Unit at EMBL in Heidelberg. The Hufnagel group investigates the biophysical aspects of growing tissues (mammalian cell culture) and organs formation (Drosophila melanogaster) using mainly molecular cell biology methods together with advanced light microscopy techniques. The post holder will be in charge of the general lab management and will support the research studies in the lab. The duties will also include active participation in projects and experimental work in molecular, mammalian cell culture (Lentiviral work in S2 environment), basic biochemistry methods, organismal biology, and live imaging of cells and tissues.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have an education as a research technician or an appropriate university degree. Proficient knowledge in several of the employed techniques is an advantage, especially in mammalian cell culture and fluorescence microscopy. Experience in viral techniques or basic fly work would be an advantage. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, be reliable and enjoy working in a team of young scientists within a highly collaborative international atmosphere. Excellent communication skills and fluency in English are required.
