Job Description

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).


The Photolab group is responsible for the imaging and audiovisual needs of EMBL and EMBO in Heidelberg. The postholder, who will work in a team of three audiovisual technicians within the Photolab group, will carry out the following tasks:

  • Audiovisual support of seminars, meetings, workshops and conferences held in EMBL and EMBO buildings under the direct supervision of the Head of Photolab

  • Design and implement modern AV integrations in meeting rooms of various sizes

  • Recording high quality digital videos of live events including live streaming.

  • Checking and maintaining all meeting rooms for audiovisual readiness including responding to client requests

  • Planning of technical set ups and supporting meeting organizers , including VIP and offsite

  • Supervising and maintaining the videoconference systems

The position involves weekend work and limited weekday responsibilities, which is included in the 39 hour/week allocation.

Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for a technician who has experience in audiovisual support and maintenance together with integration. AV Qualifications and certification would be an advantage although our priority is experience. In addition, the incumbent must have good communication and interpersonal skills as well as excellent English language skills. German language proficiency would be an advantage.
